Critical Reflection

In my formal letter of introduction, I have stated that I would like to achieve two goals in Effective Communication, which refers to expressing myself and improving my writing skills.  I always know that people will think that I am really introverted as I seldom take the initiative to speak in front of people unless I must do so. In these 13 weeks, I have been given opportunities by Professor Brad to speak in class as he will always engage the class for sharing purposes. He will group us with different people, which enabled me to adapt to different styles of communication. This really helped me a lot in projecting my voice to be louder in the subsequent lessons. To further improve, I decided to become the leader in our project team as to my understanding, a leader should represent the team and stand in front of the people. I would say that I feel more confident to express myself and speak in front of more people now. Through these 13 weeks, there were many assignments and tasks given

A Proposal for the Utilization of Sensors for Crowd Monitoring in Shopping Malls in Singapore - Draft 1

 1. Introduction This proposal was prepared in response to the request for proposals on developing solutions for the engineering problem that is the usage of sensors for automated crowd monitoring in commercialized buildings in Singapore. It aims to provide building management with a focused overview of how such measures will bring benefits. According to Coolfire Core (2019), crowd monitoring refers to the ability to control, manage and monitor large groups of people to ensure the safety and efficiency of people in case of emergencies, such as fire, terrorist attacks, etc. Modern technology, engineering, and psychology work together in the implementation of automated crowd monitoring. Monitoring crowds has gradually become important nowadays due to the growing population in Singapore and increasing crowd sizes. An automated crowd monitoring should have the ability to identify and track different and multiple objects as well as to recognize human subjects (Kang et al., 2019). In light o

The article “Parliament: S'pore looks to create Newoil by transforming waste plastic into alternative fuel” by Liu (2020) highlights Singapore’s approach to manage the rising amount of waste generated every year and discusses how recycling can help Singapore to move closer to a zero-waste nation and a low-carbon economy. Liu states that packaging waste is one of the biggest waste streams in Singapore, such that National Environment Agency (NEA) will start a deposit refund scheme to encourage recycling. Usually, plastic can be recycled by mechanical and chemical recycling. The amount of packaging used per year should be recorded by the producers and retailers for the sake of the only landfill. Besides plastic waste, Liu claims that there will be three new facilities to process more than 50,000 tonnes of e-waste annually. Liu highlights the Resource Sustainability Act will be launched that requires food enterprises to segregate the waste. NEA also introduces Newsand, which is inciner

Summary - Draft 1

The article “Parliament: S'pore looks to create Newoil by transforming waste plastic into alternative fuel” (2020) states that Singapore intends to create Newoil – that can replace fossil fuel petroleum. This approach is to solve the rising amount of waste generated every year. In 2018, only 4% of such waste generated by the nation was recycled. Packaging waste is one of the biggest waste streams in Singapore due to high generation and low recycling rate. Usually, plastic can be recycled by mechanical recycling and chemical recycling according to the types of plastics. National Environment Agency will start a deposit refund scheme to encourage the citizens to recycle. The newly announced Newoil is claimed by Singapore that it can be produced in the form of pyrolysis oil by transforming plastic. The development of new recycling method is expected to create economic opportunities for Singapore and jobs for Singaporeans. If the Newoil is successful, this will bring the nation closer t
